The Token Lounge, a music venue in the city of Westland, recently hosted a captivating live show in honor of the ambassador of the blues, Steve Soviak. This extraordinary event brought together a diverse array of talented musicians, each leaving an indelible mark on the audience's souls. The evening was a mesmerizing display of musical mastery, as Big Daddy Fox, Thornetta Davis, Laith Al Saadi, and Larry McCray graced the stage with their melancholic musical styles of performances, while Howard Glazer, Leonard Gianola soulful acoustic renditions. While they never achieved mainstream success during their short but explosive career, their influence on the development of punk rock and their incendiary live performances cemented
their legendary status.
Despite their significance, the MC5's journey to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was a long time coming. They were eligible for induction starting in 1991 but were not nominated until 2003. After years of fervent support from fans and fellow musicians, the band finally received their rightful place in the
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2024.
Though the band's core members, Wayne Kramer, Fred "Sonic" Smith, Rob Tyner, Michael Davis, and Dennis Thompson, were not alive to witness this momentous occasion, their musical legacy continues to inspire generations of musicians. Ferndale's DIY was the place to be on August 21st, 2024, as veteran funkateers, the Howling Diablos, brought their infectious grooves and high-energy performance to a packed house. With over two decades of experience under their belts, the band proved that their musical fire still burns bright, igniting the crowd with a setlist that spanned their career.
The energy at DIY was palpable from the moment the Diablos hit the stage. The band's signature blend of funk, soul, and rock, honed over years of relentless touring and performing, had the audience moving and grooving from the first beat. The "cool vibe" was undeniable, as a mixed crowd of longtime fans and curious newcomers came together to share in the infectious energy of the music.
Diablos treated the audience to a healthy dose of fan favorites. A band with such a deep well of experience surely knows how to work the crowd, their performance at The DIY was no exception.
